Evernote is designed to make your life easier and allow you to “remember everything”. The Evernote Power User Tips reveal powerful clues to unlocking the vast potential of this software and turning you into a ninja Evernote user in the process.
Power User Tip #1: How to email content to your Evernote Account
Why this is useful
When you do happen to receive a useful email in the sea of spam, you want to cherish the moment, whether it be secret family recipe for traditional Easter bread, or a brilliant piece of email marketing that you want to add to your swipefile.
Having grown used to the ease of dragging and dropping content into new notes from your hard drive, you can find yourself pondering the question: “How do I save this email in my Gmail account to Evernote, just as it is?”
How to send an Email to your Evernote account
- First you need your Evernote email address.
This is the unique email address for your account. Find it under ‘Account Info’ in either the desktop or ‘Account Settings’ on Evernote Web.
- Now copy this email address to your Contacts.
You can also use View in Contacts in the Mac desktop version.
It helps if you save the email as a contact that you can quickly type and remember. eg. Evernote eClaire9Design.
Once you sync your contacts across all of your devices, this email will be accessible from your phone, tablet and desktop.
- Now go back to your email and forward the message you want to this email address.
By default, it will go to the Notebook you have selected as Primary in Evernote.
Tips for organising your emails
The weakest point of any filing system is usually our inability to file things properly. ie. If you just dump everything into the one file, it’s as hard to find as if you didn’t use the system at all.
TIP: Try using Evernote shortcodes to send emailed notes directly to the Notebook they belong in.
The @ symbol, followed by the Notebook name in the email Subject line will do this for you.
eg. SUBJECT: Hot tips for Professional Content Creation ‘@Direct Marketing Ideas’
TIP: Use # to add tags to the Note
The # symbol will now assign as many tags as you like to the Note you are sending.
eg. SUBJECT: Nanny’s Paska Recipe @Food&Recipes #Easter #Desserts
Things to Remember…
- Always assign a Notebook to avoid losing important info.
- When assigning Notebooks & Tags, make sure the Notebook is specified first.
- If using a recently created Notebook or Tag, make sure your account has been synced before your send the email.
