You might be familiar with a version of this scene…
I’m backing out of the garage at 8:27am on a week day with three kids in the back seat. All three of them are talking, two of them to me, one of them just exercises her vowel list to join in the fun.
I’m ticking off a mental checklist… lunches, drink bottles, library days, nappies, bin day, article deadline…
Right on queue, my phone rings.
Client, probably about that deadline. Answering right now is not going to improve anything, but probably disprove quite a lot.
Thankfully, iOS has provided a solution: Respond with Text.
Customise-able Text Messages ready to respond to the phone calls you can’t (shouldn’t) answer right now
So the only sane response to my morning drop off drive is to stab the button and send a pre-prepared response.
Mine all end by asking when I can call back. Because the person has taken the time to ring, not text, I’m assuming they have time right now, but what about in 15 minutes when the kids are all dropped off and I’m high-fiving myself in the day care carpark?
It’s quick to set up.
How to Set Up Your Custom Responses
- Go to the Settings app.
- Scroll down to Phone
- Tap Respond to Text
- Enter up to three new messages, or edit the existing ones.
